Background
Created in January 2001, the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM) is the planning and financing organization for the 82 municipalities in and around the Island of Montreal. The CMM seeks to provide support for the following initiatives:
- Economic development
- Culture development
- Social housing
- Transportation network
The Problem
In the spring of 2005, CMM was in need of an English version of the situation summaries prepared for the Community business sectors covered under the ACCORD program. This is a program developed by the provincial government for assessing and promoting regional economic development across Québec. In all, there were 15 summaries dealing with a wide array of topics and using industry-specific terms. Cogitco was assigned to translate 10 of 15 documents by CMM.
The Solution
Working within its three-month delivery deadline, Cogitco coordinated a team of translators and revisers to deliver a quality product, despite the wide range of topics and various technical challenges involved. Team members were familiar with technical terms used thanks to their extensive backgrounds in their respective field of expertise.
The Result
CMM was so impressed with the final product that it called upon Cogitco again to translate the remaining 5 documents the following year.
